Strunk wins first of season, Hoffmaster wins first of career Jeff Strunk took the newly-teamed Big Spring Car Wash/Gold Rush Custom Trailers/Touch of Green Landcaping-sponsored No. 88 to victory lane in the 30-lap Modified feature at Grandview on Saturday night. And it was Greg Hoffmaster earning his first career win in Late Model competition in their 20-lap main event. Brad Missimer started from the pole position in the Don Schaeffer-owned No. 327 Modified. Missimer brought out the first caution of the night in turn two when he spun all by himself. Everyone was able to escape the spinning Missimer to continue on. On the restart Todd Smith led the first lap of the event, but it was Strunk that grabbed the point on lap two and never looked back from there. Shawn Reimert had challenged him on multiple restarts, but did not have anything for the 5-time track champion. Reimert would finish second followed by John Willman, Tom Umbenhauer and Terry Meitzler. The Late Model event was the best race of the evening by far. Dean Stoudt was the pole sitter in the Chrisman Racing No. 5 but it was Buddy Wharton taking the lead at the start from his 3rd place starting position. The first caution of the night came at lap four when Mike Kellner spun in turn two. On the restart Greg Hoffmaster grabbed the lead in his Kennan's Chevrolet of Limerick/Schaeffer's Harley-Davidson/Volpe Express-sponsored No. 69. The next caution flew at lap seven when Kyle Merkel spun his No. 117 off the corner, no other cars were involved and Merkel continued on. On the insuing restart a multi-car wreck in turn four collected Kyle Pensinger, Brian Shuey, and Bill Henning. Hoffmaster was then getting heavy pressure from Randy Stoudt, who drove the No. 69 car to a victoy last season in Thunder on the Hill action at Grandview. It was a great battle for the lead between Hoffmaster, Stoudt, Chuck Schutz, Ron Kline and Harry Neiman. Hoffmaster held off Stoudt by about a car length at the finish. Neiman would finish third followed by defending champion Ron Kline and Chuck Schutz. |
